While you’re playing on your computer Mike is climbing up pylons getting your ski lifts ready… Yes, Mike is up the mountain again doing manly things and fixing the lift pylons.

And – not content with cheating death daily owing to the absence of a Swiss version of health and safety – he likes to take time out to hang of pylons and take snaps of his shadow. Bless.

He has also sent a shot of the (exciting) new restaurant at La Chaux. And we’ll keep you posted as it progresses – the real revelation will be the menu, of course (we’ll send in Jonno to analyze it as soon as it’s released).

Now Toby loves this and will show you on his shiny new iPhone at the very first opportunity. So we thought we’d steal his thunder and show you here…

It’s Philippe from Carrefour in Verbier, and he’s been flying this thing about with gay abandon for years. Well, not any more he’s not…

So, we’ve already firmly established that the Swiss – specifically in the people of the Valais – do a very good line in festivals and parties.

Which means that a festival that’s been established to simply celebrate all things Valaisanne was destined to be brilliant. Just imagine a street party, a beer festival, a farm show and the Ideal Home Exhibition all at once…

(Oh, and if you need to know what on earth you’re looking at just have a look at the picture names):

Well, as an homage to Kermit we’ve rebranded our site to celebrate all things green. So have a nose about the site (and please tell us if you find anything that’s not working – we”ll fix it (and blame Guy) and enjoy.

And should you read anything into this? Well, only that we like green. And Kermit.

Oh, and there’s more to come, some do check back – we’ve got plans…

Well, Mike is already up the mountain working for TeleVerbier on the lifts as part of the team getting them ready for the winter.

Now, naturally that’s important work, just not as important as the fact it means he can get photos first thing in the morning of the fresh snow.

Apparently it’s very cloudy up there at the moment so he’s going to send more photos later today when it clears, but meanwhile here’s a shot from up at Ruinettes this morning, where either the thermometer is broken or it’s even chillier than we thought…

Snow update:

Mike’s just snapped these beauties up at Ruinette when the clouds cleared…

Yes, it’s that time of year again. The last weekend in September is when the cows come down off the high pastures for the winter and all over the Alps the locals celebrate with a massive party.

Now, how they celebrate differs, but here in the Vel de Bagnes the celbration is done through the medium of cheese. Raclette to be precise, as they inveneted it here.

And as adopted locals we try to help out by eating lots of cheese and making sure they run out of Fendant. So we had another sophisticated evening in Le Chable (very much like last year – see the pictures here)

And if you want to get more details have a look here.

Meanwhile, here’s the evidence…

And by the way, it snowed last night all the way down to resort.
